Quilting 101

Quilting for Beginners

Learn the basics of quilting which include piecing, rotary cutting, pressing, trimming and putting your quilt together and the steps to bind your quilt.

Log Cabin Quilt

  • One of the most basic quilting patterns that use the popular strip cutting and chain sewing method from Quilt in a Day. There are many variations of this quilt pattern using different fabrics and layouts. Quick and easy.
  • You can choose to make a zippered, 20″ pillow which will incorporate all the steps (except binding) to learn quilting techniques.
  • Or you can choose to make either a baby-size or lap-size quilt.

Half-Square Triangles

  • You will learn a fast and easy method to make multiple HST blocks.
  • You can choose to make a zippered, 20″ pillow which will incorporate all the steps (except binding) to learn quilting techniques.
  • Or you can choose to make either a baby-size or lap-size quilt.

Tumbler Quilt

  • Tumbler quilts have lots of movement happening! A slightly more advanced quilting technique using template rulers to cut your block.
  • You will purchase a “Charm” pack of fabric – 5-inch squares or you will cut your own strips and blocks for assembly.
  • You can choose to make a zippered, 20″ pillow which will incorporate all the steps (except binding) to learn quilting techniques.
  • Or you can choose to make either a baby-size or lap-size quilt.

Once you have signed up, Instructor will contact you about materials needed for class (quilting fabric and quantities).

Other materials needed for class:

  • Rotary mat
  • Rotary cutter with sharp new blade
  • Rotary ruler, 5″ x 24″
  • 12-inch or 8-1/2-inch Square-up ruler
  • Quilting straight pins
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure
  • Small pad of Post-It notes

Sewing Machines:

  • Sewing machines are provided for classroom instruction or you can bring your own.
